Qaddafi Killed, Say Libyan Officials

Reuters adds new information about Qaddafi, with no confirmation from the U.S. State Department about the news. “He was also hit in his head,” and National Transitional Council official told the news outlet. “There was a lot of firing against his group and he died.”

Did anyone else think of the “Thriller” video when they saw this?

The Longest Dictatorship in the World is Brought Down to its Knees

This development, with the capital creating its own nationalist mythos of revolutionary participation, is the very best thing that could have happened. Instead of being liberated (and somewhat subjected) from the outside by Berber or Cyrenaican revolutionaries, Tripoli enters the Second Republic with its own uprising to its name, as a full equal able to gain seats on the Transitional National Council once the Qaddafis and their henchmen are out of the way. There will be no East/West divide. My hopes for a government of national unity as the last phase of the revolution before parliamentary elections now seem more plausible than ever. Tellingly, Tunisia and Egypt both recognized the TNC as Libya’s legitimate government through the night, as the Tripoli uprising unfolded. Regional powers can see the new Libya being born.”

Gaddafi Family Palace Ransacked By Protesters ›

It’s been a bad 24 hours for Muammar Gaddafi. The Obama administration has urged that Libya be expelled from the UN Human Rights Council. Switzerland has frozen his assets. Human rights groups of various stripes are urging intervention. It all makes you wonder: where were they a month ago, when Qaddafi was just as heinous as he is today?

Well…nobody ever seems to notice until something unbelievably shocking happens. The world won’t really feel inclined to speak out until people start dying and places begin to completely fall apart. It’s sad, but all events in history tell me it’s kind of true.

Libyan Woman Speaks Out From Tripoli on AC360 ›

“This man, he’s crazy. He doesn’t care. You already see. You already understand. He doesn’t care about his people. He doesn’t care if I die. He doesn’t care if he burns the whole city. He doesn’t care if all of us in Tripoli die…if all of us in Libya die. He doesn’t care. He’s said this in his speeches. He is not even just saying. He is doing.”

Let’s hope so.
